HELP! 2007 R56 JCW Panormadak problem

28 aug 2014, 17:10

hi Guys, HELP NEEDED!

Sorry to post this thread in English as my Dutch writing skill isn't sufficient enough to explain the problem and to ask for help here.

I ride a 2007 MINI JCW and had problem closing the panorama roof, only the left hand side is closed and leaving right hand side half way tilt, it won't get close, nor open completely. I have been googling for solution and found that people applied a manual fix by removing the switch panel (interior light switch, reading light switch, roof switch), then dissembling the plastic panel within where you see the AIRBAG indicator connector, finally you will see the sunroof motor, then use a hex key to clock turn to manually close the roof. HOWEVER! it didn't work, and every time I tried to switch open and close the roof, a screaming rattle noisy comes out from the motor, didn't want to break the motor, so forced to stop proceeding further. I think the motor is still working fine, and reckon it's the cable on one side which is not correctly aligned with the other side that caused the problem.

Went to the MINI dealer, mentally prepared and not surprised they would try to rip you off by changing the parts without applying a fix, BUT one of the chef mechanic took less than 2 minutes to look through the problem and concluded that a NEW panorama roof frame would need to be replaced! there are not separate parts available to resolve the closing/opening problem, and guess what it would cost over €1600 of which €800 goes to labor, he mentioned it will take approx. 2 days to get the new frame replaced.

Has any of you MINI riders here encountered the same problem? and how did you get it fixed? greatly appreciate if anyone here can share some insights or recommend a good specialist which costs much less,
I now duct taped the roof to prevent rain from entering the roof.

Many thanks in advance and await your input!!

Hi Casper, many thanks for the swift response.

I will call them and see what they can do with reparation.

I live in Den Haag, just went to Van Beek since they are closed to the MINI dealer in Forepark for recommendations, they put me to ACC - auto cool comfort cross the street, they also do sunroof mounting, and the chef said it would cost around €200 to open the frame and diagnosis the problem, if it can be fixed, it won't cost much, but it certain parts that need to be replaced, the bill can go up to €1500, i am now gambling that there is no serious problem :? >:(
